Looking for ways to become more strategic and perform better?

You’ve recently received feedback from your lead or peers. And it states that you should be more strategic and you need to improve your performance. Are you think what on earth I could learn more? Yes? Then let me tell you that the first thing you have to do is to see if you are a metacognitive aware learner.

But first thing first, what is metacognition?

By definition, metacognition is a mental process that a person uses in learning. The most used is that metacognition is thinking about one’s thinking. An intentional process of planning, tracking and assessing your understanding and performance.

Metacognition allows people to take charge of their learning. It involves awareness of how they learn. It helps to find out what are the learning needs, what strategies to use and how to make it happen.

Metacognition helps you better to manage your skills for a successful learning activity. It also determines which weaknesses to improve by constructing new cognitive skills. Almost anyone who can perform a skill is capable of metacognition – thinking about how they do it.

Metacognitive aware learners are more strategic and perform better

Being a metacognitive aware learner, it means being aware of how you learn. As simple as that. And, spreading the news about metacognition begins with building awareness among learners. To let them know about it, that it’s different from cognition, and it increases performance.

I want to know what is my level of metacognitive awareness as a learner.

Recent research shows that you perform better, and you’re more strategic if you are aware. When you’re conscious, you know how to plan and track your learning in a way that improves performance. Understanding what’s the metacognition role in education is becoming more productive and autonomous.

Metacognition is separate from other cognitive constraints on learning
such as aptitude and domain knowledge.

Metacognition includes knowledge and regulation of cognition. About reflective and control learning aspects, you can read here.

Back in the days, I did research to analyse the metacognition awareness of adult learners. To understand the impact of their awareness on the learning process. This survey helps you to identify how aware are you on the reflective and the control aspect of learning. Based on these results, the learner gets insights on how he can improve the learning process.

Recently I made it available on-demand so other learners can find out how they stand and what they can do better. If you’re interested or you know someone who will share it. It takes like 10 minutes to fill in.

I want to know what is my level of metacognitive awareness as a learner.
