Looking for skills to increase your life quality?

Everyone speaks nowadays about these entrepreneurial skills, and it’s like a crazy world out there, promoting various pieces of training and programmes to develop it.

Then, what about developing some entrepreneurial skills?

And when it comes to my opinion, I think that developing these skills is a must, just because the entrepreneurial skills are various, complex and it helps on the personal development too, in fact, it requires deep engagement, and due to this fact, these skills can also apply in different levels of our lives. And based on this I consider that developing these entrepreneurial skills is a step to increase the quality of our lives.

But … wait! What skills are we talking about here?

According to an analytical highlight that was published by the European Commission with a focus on Entrepreneurial skills, we can see that these skills combine a range of technical, management and personal skills.

As such, there is no traditional, simple definition of entrepreneurial skills, but is clearly their impact on people’s economic, personal and social lives.

The OECD has identified three main groups of skills required by entrepreneurs:

  1. Technicalcommunication, environment monitoring, problem-solving, technology implementation and use, interpersonal, organizational skills.
  2. Business managementplanning and goal setting, decision making, human resources management, marketing, finance, accounting, customer relations, quality control, negotiation, business launch, growth management, compliance with regulations skills.
  3. Personal entrepreneurialself-control and discipline, risk management, innovation, persistence, leadership, change management, network building, and strategic thinking.

The combination of these skills, competencies and attributes could give some answers for those interested to discover what are the skills on demand, depending on their area of interest.

And now…what?

What I would do now, if I was a learner looking forward to lifelong learning – maybe like you – is a list of what skills I posses, an analysis on those and ow they can help me with my future plans, and another list with what skills I want to develop.

If I was a trainer, then I would start finding the best tool that others – may be students – can use to do a self-analysis on their learning level. Then I would start designing some workshops towards the use of that tool, on defining life goals and identifying the right set of skills that will help them achieve their dreams and, by that I mean increasing the quality of their life.

On an end note you should know that …

The Analytical Highlight published by the European Commission under the EU Skills Panorama is an excellent resource to have a perspective about this topic on the European level.

This material presents what are the entrepreneurial skills, what is the current levels of entrepreneurship skills in Europe and also the result of study research regarding who possesses entrepreneurship skills.
